Blacklight Prototype
June 23, 2009I’ve never tried using the Samurize command line parameters before so this was really just a simple thing I put together to learn how to toggle a config on and off using those parameters. It’s by no means perfect but I just wanted to experiment with something quick and easy at first!
The first part of this package is the ‘Collapsed‘ config, which contains:
- Date
- Time (Analog and digital)
- Current weather conditions (icon, temperature and description)
- Event calendar
- Upload and download activity
- Processor activity (4 cores and total graph)
- HDD free space stats
The only three plugins I’ve used (in addition to any standard Samurize meters of course) are:
- TextFX by Uziq
- Weather2004 by Torsius
- Event Calendar by Uziq
These are pretty standard tools in everyone’s Samurize box but if you happen to find yourself without them, you can find the on the Samurize website easily enough. I’ve used the B&W weather icons by Wiz, which you can find HERE on the Samurize website.
Moving on then, the second part is the ‘Expanded’ config, which basically just lists the contents of your event calendar. You can scroll through the month/year using the buttons in the top-right, as you can see in the screen shot below.
Note that these buttons don’t affect the calendar that resides in the collapsed section on the left. That calendar simply displays the current month and highlights any events you might have listed for that month. You can also click it to add a new event but it doesn’t change at all as you push the buttons in the expanded config.
So, the above image shows what the whole thing looks like once the expanded config is on. The ying-yang symbol between the U/L and D/L graphs in the collapsed config is the toggle button by the way.
To create this kind of toggle switch, I used the Samurize command line. If you’re unsure how this works, have a look at what I’ve done with that particular meter’s left-click event, then search the Samurize Config Editor’s help file for “Command line” and you’ll soon figure out what’s going on there! That’s where I started.
The font I’ve used throughout the config is Consolas. I know it’s not a pretty font but it was convenient for getting this thing done quickly! Feel free to change it of course.
Finally, if you have any questions or problems just drop a comment onto this post and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Thanks!
